Reset

It comes a time in every Christian's life where you have to start over again, this might be after you've fallen into temptation or after a tragic experience. Whatever it may be, we often ask ourselves how and if it is truly possible to start again especially if you have fallen into repetitive sin. This question comes from this verse: "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins",Hebrews 10:26. It is quick for our minds to come up with assumptions regarding this verse, we can make ourselves believe that because we've sinned after recieving Christ we have lost our salvation. This blog will try to answer these questions and hopefully help you learn more about our faith.

First question, Is it possible to lose our salvation? We need to define what salvation is, the definition from Wikipedia states that Salvation is the saving of human beings from sin and its consequences, which include death and separation from God" by Christ's death and resurrection, and the justification following this salvation. This is preached with the verse John 3:16-18 and throughout the Bible where we are told what is the purpose of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us. We gain salvation when we accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour. We are told to obey God and sacrifice our flesh as stated in Mark 8:34, which says ,"Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."

Jesus gave up His life, so we can be saved, He made a way for us to go to God and worship Him. When we recieve Christ into our lives, we are required to obey Him and leave our old sins as stated in 1 Peter 1: 13-16, which says,"Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy." We are told that if we keep sinning when we have received Christ then we do not know Him and that our state is worse than we were when we did not know Christ as stated in 1 John 3 :6-9, which says," No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God." The truth of the matter is that we are denying Christ when we sin freely, God has given us the Holy Spirit and has set us free from all bondages and sin, He has made a way for us to repent and live a sinless life.

Am I saying that there is no possiblity for us to sin, once we've been in Christ? No, God does state that we have all fallen from His Grace and that we have sin.

As stated in 1 John 1:8-19, which says,"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." However there is a difference between sinning freely and the sin talked about in 1 John 1:8-10. Sinning freely is what we know has repitive sin, it's the sin we have accompanied ourselves with, the sin we know is wrong, but do anyway, this is the sin talked about in 1 John 3:6-9, the sin we keep on practicing and this is the sin that moves us further away from God. We as Christians cannot practice sin and believe we are still right with God, we would be deceiving ourselves. If we keep practicing sin, we go back to our old nature and reject the new nature, we become lukewarm Christians and we all know what the Bible says about being lukewarm.

Now that we know the truth about how freely sinning takes us away from God and makes us lukewarm, we also know that there is no way we can make it to Heaven and be with God if we are lukewarm. What do we do from here? Have we lost our salvation? The answer is yes..okay I'm kidding its absolutely no! We have not lost our salvation, God is forgiving, He loves us so much that He gave us the Holy Spirit, the fact that you have a negative feeling towards your actions or feel the need to ask these questions is proof that you still have the Holy Spirit. All you need to do is press reset and start your journey with God anew, throw away those sinful habits and rest in knowing that you are forgiven. Start with a prayer of repentance, know that Christ has set you free, acknowledge that you have no bondage of the enemy and that Christ has given you everything to say no to sin. I will be speaking more on this subject of pressing reset on my future blogs, join me in this journey and feel free to ask questions. Stay blessed.
